When Life Hands You a Football
Oct 02, 2024I’m not a football expert but I do love watching the Superbowl (and the commercials) every year. This past Saturday was spent with friends watching a day of college games. There is nothing like watching a football game and seeing a strong 4th quarter comeback.
One of the best all time 4th quarter comebacks is the story of Vince Papale. This 30-year-old who was a part-time divorced bar tender tried out for the Philadelphia Eagles in 1976. It was open try outs for a city that was seeing a lot of companies shutting down and striking. It was very hard times for the city. Vince is the underdog who wins the game for the Eagles in the 4th quarter. If you have not seen the movie Invincible it is a true story with so many life lessons. Great 70’s music too.
Just like a football game, the 4th quarter is where champions are made. Here’s how you can bring that same determination to your wellness journey.
1. Stick to Your Game Plan
Remember the goals you set at the beginning of the year? Now’s the time to recommit! Whether it’s eating healthier, exercising more, or simply finding balance, don’t let the clock run out without giving it your all.
2. Play Offense, Not Defense
Don’t wait for the holiday temptations and end-of-year stress to sideline your progress. Be proactive:
Meal Prep: Have nutritious meals and snacks ready so you’re not reaching for unhealthy options.
Schedule Workouts: Treat your workouts like appointments that you can’t miss.
Self-Care Time: Carve out moments for yourself to recharge and stay mentally strong.
3. Make Small Gains Count
Every yard matters in football, and every healthy choice matters in your journey. Don’t underestimate the power of small actions: a quick walk, a healthy snack, or a moment of mindfulness can help you inch toward your goals.
4. Stay Focused on the Big Win
The holidays can be overwhelming, but your health is worth more than a few indulgences. Stay focused on the long game. This is about creating a lifestyle that lasts well beyond the holiday season. Keep your eye on the prize: feeling your best!
5. Celebrate Your Progress
Like any great team, it’s important to celebrate your wins. Reflect on how far you've come and take pride in the small victories. You’ve been building strength all year long—mentally, emotionally, and physically.
The Game Isn't Over Yet
You still have time to turn this year into your healthiest one yet. Whether you’re ahead or behind on your goals, the 4th quarter is when it all comes together. Let's finish this year strong, feeling proud, energized, and ready to take on whatever comes next!
Are you with me? 💪 Let's go for that win!
